Help our little Twiggy walk again!

Donation protected
Twiggy is a 3 ½ year old female red miniature dachshund from sunny Tamarama in Sydney NSW with a beautiful loving temperament and loves playing with her partner in crime Sizzle.

She enjoys long walks on the beach, sunbaking, playing with her cat toys, giving big sloppy kisses and snuggling up to her Humans Katie and Chris.

On Sunday 28th September 2014 Twiggy was rushed to her vet in Bondi after waking up paralysed from the waist down, with absolutely no movement or feeling in her hind legs.

Twiggy was immediately referred on to Sydney University Veterinary teaching hospital where after an MRI it was discovered that Twiggy had 2 dislodged vertebrae pushing into her spinal cord.

Twiggy was then admitted for emergency surgery to relieve and remove the pressure off her spine.

Twiggy has no pre-existing spinal issues so this came as a complete and utter shock to Twiggy’s vet and her humans.

Dachshunds are known to in some cases have weak spines and her humans were advised that something as simple as walking down stairs or turning a corner could have triggered Twiggy’s paralysis.

3 days on little twiggy is still lodging at Sydney University Veterinary teaching hospital under 24 hour care, she is showing some signs of improvement with the paralysis moving 2cm down her spine towards her tail but she still has a long road ahead of her.

We are crossing fingers and Paws that our darling Twiggy is able to gain sensation and movement in her hind legs again along with full bladder control.

Our surgeon cannot put a timeframe on when and if she will recover so all we can do is hope and pray that the little one makes a full recovery.

At present we are being told that Twiggy will need to stay on at the hospital until she regains sensation and movement In her legs, after this time she will be released to home crate for 6 weeks, with follow up physiotherapy and hydrotherapy prescribed.

Of course all of this comes at a price tag, we want Twiggy to be given the best chance to recover and get back to her normal puppy life.

The surgery and treatment has cost her humans $8,000 so far with more bills expected for her on going care and rehabilitation.

Despite the price tag her humans did not hesitate when it came to deciding whether to proceed with the surgery or not, Twiggy is the sweetest most loving dog and deserves a chance to walk again.

Please dig deep for our darling twiggy, we appreciate your support and donations for Miss Twiggy Diamond  - every little bit helps!
