Little Fish English is a volunteer project providing the local kids and teens of Barrinha de Baixo—a remote fishing village located on the Northeast coast of Brazil—a unique opportunity to learn English.

This low-income region of Brazil is self-sustaining; the local community supports their families through fishing and small-scale farming. The beautiful beaches and abundant natural resources have begun to attract tourism and international visitors. With limited access to extracurricular learning, very few local residents speak or understand English. The Little Fish English project believes that offering this English-speaking course will allow this region’s youth to progress academically, help their families, support their community and better equip them for future professional opportunities

Volunteer native English-speaking teachers are partnering with the local school (Expedito Jose de Freitas EEIEF) to offer English classes at cost and in a safe environment. Little Fish English will offer an immersive English-speaking course to 40 kids and teens aged 10-14 years old. The course will run October through December 2021 with biweekly sessions at the school as well as an English Immersion Saturday.

Each child participating in the course will be charged the local equivalent of just U$20.00. We will match each child’s fee with a $20.00 sponsorship. This will enable us to provide printed handbooks, certificates of completion, classroom supplies and snacks.

Join our team of sponsors and support a child’s access to our enrichment program. U$20.00 sponsors one child for the full course. Help us reach our goal to sponsor all 40 kids.

Regular updates will be provided via our Little Fish Barrinha Instagram page as well as monthly e-newsletters.
