Like so many others in Lismore, after being hit heavily in the 2017 floods, one of Lismore's magical, iconic food institutions, 20,000 Cow's Vegetarian Restaurant, has been wiped out in one of the highest floods on record, reaching a whopping 14.5 meters. UPDATE: Lismore has flooded again and 20,000 Cows has gone under for the second time in 4 weeks.
Marijonas Vilkelis, known as Mari, has operated the restaurant in Lismore for the past 31 years, offering vegan delicacies from all over the world. People come not only for the amazing food, but also the for the philosophy that is behind the restaurant. Mari has been independent of the system for the past 43 years and doesn’t take any government funding or assistance. Anyone who knows Mari will tell you how generous he’s always been to anyone in need and he’s given back a lot to the local community and the planet over the years.
Unfortunately due to the damage sustained, Mari now needs your HELP to get this local icon back up and running again. Everything has been destroyed in the flood and we need to build the restaurant up from scratch. All donations will go directly to help Mari get back on his feet and set up 20,000 Cows to once again be an integral part of a thriving Lismore community.
A few of the main items are listed of what we will be using the funds towards, primarily, we will be looking for second hand equipment.
Commercial Stove and hotplate
Tables and chairs
Plates, cups etc
Kugelis processor (if there are any Lithuanians out there?)
The damage is immense
