Lisa Lang’s Medical Fund
Raising money for medical bills and related medical expenses.
Lisa is 50 years old and also a wife of 19 years, Mother/Step-Mom of 5 children (21 – 29 years of age), and is a recent Grandmother/Step-Grandmother of 4 (newborn – three years old) with another grandchild on the way. On May 14, 2015 she was in the car with her husband John heading out to go on a hike in Pennsylvania when she began to ask John the same question over and over again. He immediately sensed something was wrong and drove straight to St. Mary’s Hospital. After being admitted and running several tests and brain scans, it became clear that Lisa had a mass in her brain that was causing petite mal seizures (This type of seizure lasts less than 15 seconds and disturbs the brain function due to abnormal electrical activity in the brain).
After days upon days upon being hospitalized and countless exams and scans, Lisa was diagnosed with Glioma Anaplastic Astrocytoma – Grade III brain tumor. This type of brain tumor is cancerous and grows quickly and spreads to nearby tissues. Only two percent of all brain tumors are grade III astrocytoma’s.
Once diagnosed, Lisa was introduced to the neurology team at The University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia. Lisa underwent brain surgery on June 1, 2015 but the road to treatment is not close to over. Radiation and chemotherapy will begin shortly and last for six weeks. After a four week break she will repeat the six week radiation and chemotherapy session. There will be a total of six sessions for Lisa’s treatment, which will last for 36 weeks.
John planned to take the Family Medical Leave Act, to provide full time care for his wife, but is unable to since he would not be paid during this time. Lisa does have medical insurance but the long list of medical expenses far exceed what the insurance will be able to cover.
As Lisa just turned 50, she has her own bucket-list full of things that she would like to see and do. Lisa is the most positive, loving, and caring person. She feels that with all the prayers and positive thoughts along with the treatment she will have a longer life.
John and Lisa’s lives have been turned on edge. Cancer ripples far beyond the body and this entire struggle has and will be costly. We can’t take the pain, but we can reduce some of the financial burden. This is a great chance for us to support John and Lisa through the most difficult time of their lives.
