Who Are We?

Liquid Therapy is a growing, community-driven charity based in Rossnowlagh, Co. Donegal, Ireland. We offer a range of ocean-based surf, play, and mental wellbeing programmes to young individuals with a wide variety of additional needs. Formed in 2011 by delivering one single programme, we are now the only registered charity of our kind in Ireland.

 

 

What Are We Doing?

For June 2022, we have adopted a go big or go home approach to fundraising!

As we launch our biggest season to date, our goal in June is to raise €10,000 through a series of events and fund raisers.

This will allow us to continue delivering our free programs, and to enable us in removing all barriers to inclusion.

Why Are We Doing It?

The Kids: As the world tentatively emerges from the clutches of the global pandemic, only to be confronted with the threat and uncertainty brought upon us all by the conflict in Europe, mental health challenges are currently a massive issue for young people worldwide. We're aware that the struggles they face now can be an indicator of mental health challenges in later life. We also know that a significant proportion of young people today are not meeting the recommended physical activity levels and that levels of obesity are on the rise. The time to act on these issues is now!

 

The Families: In addition to the numerous physical and mental health benefits provided to the individuals who participate in our programmes, our services also act as an invaluable form of respite to the participant’s families and primary caregivers. Not only does the beach session itself act as respite, but so too do the periods in between sessions. The participants look forward to coming to the beach in the days and weeks leading up to their session. Afterwards, they experience a sense of calm owing to the mental health benefits which physical exercise, social interaction, and a sense of achievement have provided them.

 

The Volunteers: Aside from the participants and their families, we also have a growing team of enthusiastic and dedicated volunteers without whom we wouldn't be where we are today. We are keenly aware of the benefits Liquid Therapy provides to every volunteer who has helped us throughout the years. We empower our volunteers to gain and build confidence in themselves and their abilities. We help them meet people, learn new skills, and take on challenges. Most importantly, we allow them to have fun!

Without our volunteers, we are nothing. We owe each of them a massive thank you.

As a growing, community-driven charity, we need all the help and support we can get to enable us to deliver our services to a wider audience. The therapeutic benefits of the ocean and blue spaces have been scientifically proven to positively impact the mental well-being of all those fortunate enough to experience them. Our mission is to make these healing benefits accessible to all, regardless of any perceived barriers. Liquid Therapy empowers each individual with the tools necessary for them to reach their own aquatic potential.

Most importantly, we believe in every young person who attends a Liquid Therapy session.
