On Sunday morning, Lindsay departed for a walk at Cranbrook with her son David, and returned home 20 minutes later with her house up in flames. Fortunately, her dog, Koda, had the amazing intuition to wake up Ashely and her friends in the basement when he saw smoke. Without his incessant licking and Ashley's quick reflexes, things could have been much worse. However, as it is, due to the fire, smoke and water in putting out the flames, she has lost almost everything. She has her flip flops, t-shirt and pants she was wearing on the walk - and that's it. Imagine losing not only all of your precious possessions collected over the years (Lindsay sobbed when she told me Ashley's blankie from her infancy is gone), but also not having any underwear, school supplies, pajamas, makeup, etc. It's all gone. While Lindsay feels incredibly blessed by her amazing family and she does have insurance, it will be a very long time before she will see any payouts, be able to move back in (6 months minimum they are quoting), go back to work, etc. In the meantime, she needs support in getting the most basic items. I am sure you can imagine the incredible stress this might cause. She was extremely hesitant to allow me to post this but I am adamant in helping. I know we have an amazing community and so many have offered to help they just don't know how. I think the easiest thing is to provide money so Lindsay can purchase the items she and the kids need immediately. If you do not feel comfortable donating money, you can donate clothes to the kids, drop meals off at her parents, help with playdates to keep the kids occupied and not worried, buy Lindsay a drink, etc. If you have any questions at all, please do not hesitate to contact me.
