Linda Kaany's Broken Neck Fund

On January 27th, our mom Linda Kaany’s life changed forever. At Miami Country Day School where she has dedicated over 25 years to children, she fell while leaving work and suffered a severe fracture of her C2 Vertebrae (broken neck). It is puzzling to many of her doctors that she survived, wasn’t paralyzed or hasn’t suffered from any brain damage.
Amazingly, she has persevered and remained strong throughout facing multiple complications such as wearing a halo for three months, MRSA, pulmonary emboli, severe edema and critical infections among other things. Her humor has helped her get this through that is for sure. This is not to say her days aren’t challenging but she continues to be positive.
Our mother has dedicated her life to caring for others whether that was being a single mom to us or caring for her extended family like her friends and the students she has taught. It is probably the one thing that hurts our mom the most is thinking about not being able to go to work to be with the little ones she feels are like her other children or visit with her past students even those in high school.
Many people have asked what mom needs and how they can help. We started this GoFundMe effort to help with all of the things you don’t think about. Will she fully recover? Will she lose health benefits? What will Workman’s Comp cover and not cover? It’s a true battle dealing with them. Will she not be able to pay certain bills and risk losing the house? We are unsure and somewhat frightened.
For the first time in our mom’s life she needs your support. It is a huge and humbling decision for her to ask us to create this effort and know that any donation will mean the world to her.
