Lincoln is Loved

Several friends and family members have lost children and grandchildren. When my children were younger, I would wake up with nightmares of them being in danger. But no amount of empathy or worry can prepare you for such a devastating loss and on Sunday night, I realized that truth first hand.

Madison and Aaron have been preparing for the arrival of Lincoln Knight Hollingsworth for the past 9 months. Painting, decorating, and furnishing his room. Writing messages of love on his door they painted with chalk paint. Folding and hanging so many clothes given to them by friends, aunts, uncles, and soon to be grandparents. You could hear the joy in their voices when they talked about his progress and see the happiness in their eyes when they spoke of a future with Lincoln.

On Thursday Madison had her last checkup. Everything seemed great and she was scheduled to be induced on Sunday evening. In my ignorance, I hoped that she would not give birth until Monday morning so that Lincoln would share a birthday with my mom, his great grandmother.

On Sunday,  Aaron and Madison made final preparations around the house to make sure it was ready for Lincoln to be home, loaded up the car seat and some clothes for Madison, and headed to the hospital. And that's when life reminded us just how fragile and cruel it could be.

As the minutes passed and the doctors and nurses could not find a heart beat for Lincoln, you just can't imagine the fear and desperation Madison and Aaron were enduring.  About an hour and a half later, the doctor informed them that their child had passed away and that they would need to perform a C-section to remove his remains. Lincoln passed away sometime Saturday or Sunday afternoon when the embryonic sack separated from the uterine wall...a rare occurrence that is usually caused by some form of trauma.

As parents, we wish that we could take on the hurt and pain of our children. In this case, I'm not sure I would be strong enough. Aaron and Madison have been amazing so far. Of course there were breakdowns the first time they went home and looked around Lincoln's room, reading the notes they had written to him and to each other,  seeing the pregnancy pictures on the mantel. But together they are working through their grief.

As some of you know, Aaron's work requires him to be on the road for weeks at a time. He is supposed to be back at work on Monday, but neither he or Madison are mentally prepared for this. I've created a GoFundMe campaign to help take care of some of their bills and allow them the time to grieve and heal without worrying about money. If you are able and feel moved to do so, please help give them the time they need.

Lincoln Knight Hollingsworth - 07/09/2017

We knew you for such a short amount of time, but never has someone been loved so much by so many. You will be in our hearts forever.
