Lilly's Emergency Back Surgery

Those who know my mother in law, Lilly, admire her for her selfless love and dedication to the children of Guatemala, specifically the children who have suffered as victims of abuse and neglect. She has dedicated her life to fighting for these young girls and their children by providing a safe home for them, loving them, nurturing them, and empowering them to break the cycle of physical, emotional, and sexual abuse that once held them hostage.
Lilly has been suffering from severe back and nerve pain, and recently found out that she needs urgent spinal surgery.
Unfortunately, due to an irreversable administrative error on someone else's behalf, this urgent surgery will not be covered by her health insurance, so she must pay the entire $12,000 out of pocket. Considering her work as the director of a non-profit orphanage and the difference in dollar value in Guatemala (the same surgery would cost approximately $100,000 in the US), this amount is no small cost.
Lilly is scheduled for emergency surgery this Wednesday, September 13th, as the doctors have warned that if she waits any longer, the discs could cause permanent damage, as well as permanent numbness in her legs.
Lilly has changed the lives of so many children, and can only continue to do so after recovering from this painful, urgent health issue. She is desperate for relief from the pain so she can continue to serve her purpose and passion in life -- helping the children of Guatemala, at her orphanage, Esperanza y Futuro Hogar (Hope and Future Home).
My husband, Javi, and I will be living in Guatemala to help Lilly through the surgery and recovery, and help with the day to day operations at the orphanage so it continues to run smoothly until Lilly has recovered fully.
