We are Joan and Nelson Wells. Our community is struggling. The social and economic fabric of our town has been unraveling for generations and without intervention, crime rates, unemployment, poor mental and physical health, addiction rates, poverty and hopelessness will only increase.
We were led to Tuskegee with the vision of bringing revitalization to Tuskegee and Macon County.
BRINGING A HEALTHY, POSITIVE CHANGE
In 2019, Lifetime Natural Organic Farm began farming in Tuskegee, growing USDA Certified Organic vegetables, building relationships, creating jobs, providing organic vegetables to local food banks and faith-based organizations, and investing money into our local economy. But just like our community, the land we farm needs a revival. As George Washington Carver foretold…
“The rapid growth of industry, the ever-increasing population and the imperative need for more varied, wholesome and nourishing foodstuff makes it all the more necessary to exhaust every means at our command to fill the empty dinner pail, enrich our soils, bring greater wealth and influence to our beautiful South land, which is synonymous to a healthy, happy and contented people.”
We desire to turn our dirt into soil – a living, breathing ecosystem that will grow healthy food. This involves the use of regenerative agricultural practices such as natural soil amendments like rock dust, mycorrhizal fungi and compost as well as implementing a minimal till philosophy. Another major strategy involves rotating cover crops into our vegetable planting schedule. Cover crops are an integral part of restoring land because they add organic matter to the earth that feeds healthy microbes, protects the soil surface from erosion, breaks up soil compaction, provides weed suppression, adds natural fertilizer to the earth for our crops to utilize, helps to naturally control pests and diseases without chemicals and increases biodiversity on our farm.
PLEASE PARTNER WITH US TO MAKE A DIFFERENCE
Your generous donation of any amount will continue our original vision as well as go towards obtaining seeds, soil amendments, training and jobs for local residents, no-till machinery and the tools necessary to implement our soil regeneration plan. Also, donations will be used to create various health related classes in our community such as sharing the benefits of eating nutrient-dense organic food as well as how to prepare and cook it. Additionally, funds will be utilized to organize and fund fitness programs and events such as walking challenges and fitness education.
We at Lifetime Natural Organic Farm believe that the health of our soil is a reflection of the health of our community…healthy soil equals healthy food; healthy food equals healthy people. We are all stewards of the earth and builders of communities. Will you be a part of this revival?
WHAT YOU CAN DO
We are all in this together. Without your help this is only a dream. And to make our dream a reality, we ask that you consider supporting our efforts to rebuild our soil for our farm’s success and the success of our community.
Will you be a part of this revival? Please partner with us to make a difference…for not only us today but for generations to come.
