Life Saving Surgery For Nacho

On February 13, 2020, my Dad was walking our dog Nacho down the street when Nacho and my Dad were completely blindsided by two unleashed large dogs and Nacho was attacked from behind. There was no provocation and no warning. Little Nacho did not stand a chance, couldn't even bark back and my Dad had no opportunity to preemptively protect Nacho. He was completely pinned down, bitten several times and when the attack was over, Nacho was covered in blood and seemed lifeless...my Dad thought he was already gone at that point. Apparently the owners of the dogs were not home, except for their young child and a babysitter. It seems like perhaps the babysitter did not have the backyard or house doors closed and the large dogs were able to run out and attack Nacho.
After taking Nacho to the emergency vet, the prognosis didn't look good. The damage was extensive. He had multiple lacerations, torn muscles, punctured lung and broken ribs (there's literally a broken rib floating around). We were possibly getting ready to say goodbye to Nacho after 6 amazingly love filled years. When the whole family visited him the next day, it seemed like he was getting a little better and he was alert, attentive and responsive to all of us. The Nurses and Doctors said he looks better as well. They believe that with Surgery, he should make a full recovery, but it is very costly. The surgery costs $10,000 and it's costing over $2,000 each day Nacho spends at the hospital. After the very grim prognosis on the day of the attack, if the only thing we have to worry about is the financial implications, then I'll take that deal any day. So if you are able, my family needs YOUR help and support to try to help cover the upfront costs of this life saving surgery. Obviously, we are going through the small claims court to try to recover as much of these funds as we can.
After seeing Nacho at the hospital, it's clear that he has a will to live and he wants to fight to stay alive. With all of US as a team and as a family, we can help him do that. Those who know our family know how much Nacho means to us and we can't imagine life without him. Please help us with whatever you can and it will be so greatly appreciated. Know that we will also explore the full extent of our rights to help protect all the small dogs out there.
