Life For Alivia

Joshua 1:9 states “Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid, do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go”.
This is a verse that could describe Alivia Roark’s life for the past 15 years. Alivia is a fun loving daughter, aunt, cousin, and friend. But, best of all, she is the greatest little sister I could ask for. She is the baby sister, who is spoiled by me, her other sister, mom, grandmother, and extended family. She has a heart of gold, the strength of a lion, and courage beyond measure. To our family, Alivia is the greatest example of God’s faithfulness and unconditional love. The last 15 years have been a testament of God’s grace in Alivia’s life. However, she is now in need of a lifesaving heart and kidney transplant.

In late 2003, when Alivia was 9 years old, she was diagnosed with kidney failure. By early 2005, Alivia had a kidney transplant at the age of 10. Since the transplant, she has fought a tenacious battle to live a normal life as a child, teenager, and now a young adult. In the last 15 years, she has endured multiple procedures, several surgeries, kidney failure, and dialysis. Despite all of this, Alivia brings joy to our family on a daily basis. She has taught our family how to be strong, resilient, and courageous. Alivia has taught me to never give up and trust God in spite of my situation.

Alivia has been accepted into Vanderbilt transplant program. In the next 4-5 months, Alivia is expected to receive a call for both a heart and kidney transplant. For years, our family has carried the financial burden of travel and living expenses, to ensure Alivia received the care that she needed. We live our lives by faith, however, we also know that Matthew 7:7 states “"Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you”.

Today we are asking for your help. We are hoping to raise $5,000-$7,000 to pay for living and traveling expenses for Alivia and my mom. My mom will be taking a leave of absence from her job to care for Alivia after the transplant. Immediately following the transplant, Alivia and my mom will have to live in Nashville for about a month and half. After the first initial month and half, Alivia will have to travel to Vanderbilt every week for six weeks and every other week for an additional six weeks after that.

Any donation will be greatly appreciated and every amount helps. Our family will be eternally grateful for your donation. We will be sure to keep everyone updated on Alivia’s journey.

Until then, remember one of Alivia’s favorite bible verses: “What, then, shall we say in response to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us,” Romans 8:31.
