Lia's BMT Journey
Donation protected
At 16 years old (2007) Lia was diagnosed with Severe Aplastic Anemia (SAA). Her body had stopped producing Red Blood cells, White Blood cells, and Platelets because her bone marrow does not work. She would need a bone marrow transplant (BMT). Her immediate family were all tested to check for matches but were only half matches, so she was placed on the bone marrow registry. For the past 11+ years she has been taking medication to suppress her immune system, and has been receiving red blood and platelet transfusions regularly. Now the long wait is over and there is a willing donor that is a match. We hope to raise money to help cover medical out of pocket costs, travel expense to and from the hospital (she will be in-patient for 4-6 weeks) as well as any leave with out pay that may be incurred by her husband while he cares for her. Thank you in advance, any assistance is greatly appreciated.
