LGBT Youth Workshop

The team at Optimism Place is creating a one day workshop for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Trans (LGBT) youth in the surrounding community on April.26th. We work in rural southern Ontario where there are zero organizations or services for LGBT youth. The entire workshop day is being funded with donations and sponsorship. The workshop will feature yoga, keynote speeches, artistic expression and will end with a queer celebration for all the youth attending!
We want the event to be free for any attendees and ensure we are not forgetting any LGBT youth due to cost. No donated funds will be used to pay salaries or wages. All funds raised through GoFundMe will be used to cover, space rental, food for the day, activity costs, bus transportation for the students and decor costs. The total funds will be transfered to Optimism Place and processed through our finance system.
These students are so marginalized and forgotten during their everyday lives. In a country where LGBT youth are three times more likely to commit suicide than their heterosexual classmates, this is a service these students need and deserve!
About Me:
I began my employment with Optimism Place as their LGBT Consultant last year and have worked on developing youth oriented LGBT projects for Huron and Perth County. I grew up in this county and understand how necessary these services are for this community.
