What is The Hoarder's Child?
Written by Heather. Performed by Joanna.
Look around your home. How much stuff do you have? Which things are hard to give up? The Hoarder's Child is a fictional, even abstract, and you might add grotesque, example of the toll consumption takes on human relationships. In this play, a child is literally buried alive in her home, and left to forge her own way among piles of stuff. She is the contemporary version of the feral child, found in the woods and raised by woods. This child, however, is raised by rats and bugs and inanimate objects.
Ultimately, The Hoarder's Child is about things we consume and stories we tell ourselves. In her yearning for contact, "the child" takes us on a journey of humor, pathos, and hope, perhaps reminding us to value our relationships more than our stuff.
