Let's Help Paul!

Our friend Paul Belcher is having a tough time right now. As you may know, he underwent open heart surgery in November and has been recovering well but slowly.

Paul’s a fighter. He moved back to Illinois in recent years to continue his education after holding many dead-end jobs in Florida. He sacrificed income, contact with friends, and proximity to his beautiful daughter to improve his life and ultimately hers as well. He was a devoted student in his academic program at Kishwaukee Community College where he was also inducted into Phi Theta Kappa. He was one of only two students recognized at graduation by the Lieutenant Governor of Illinois.

Paul completed an internship with distinction, learning manufacturing techniques to greatly increase his marketability and in 2014 was hired for the first post-graduation professional position for which he interviewed. His life was on a serious up-swing. He was thriving in his new position, had moved into a nice apartment near his new employer, and for the first time had health insurance.

Then last November Paul was diagnosed with a serious heart problem after many years of suffering from life-threatening edema, five bouts of pneumonia, and being medically misdiagnosed and inappropriately medicated.
He underwent life-saving open heart surgery to remove his entire pericardium in mid-November. Paul experienced another transformation, but this time it was physical. He lost an impressive 120 pounds as a result of the surgery, correct medication, and determination. His recuperation has been lengthy, but he was determined and decided to get back to work on a half time basis just three weeks after his surgery.

In January, life got a little more complicated for Paul. He was laid off from his job. Now on top of trying to physically recover from this major surgery, he is experiencing serious financial strain. In addition to having to pay for COBRA (which we all know is ridiculously expensive), he has rent, utilities, auto insurance, student loans, and child support. There is hope that his company will re-hire him in the spring, but Paul needs our help now.

Please consider helping our friend by giving even a small amount.
