Lexi's Long Journey

My name is Rachel Maika, and I am a teacher and running coach in Richmond. I am creating this page to help support Lexi Hindson and her family. Lexi attended Dixon Elementary, where many staff members like myself taught and interacted with this family over the past seven years. Lexi is currently a student at McMath High School in Steveston. I have had the pleasure of coaching Lexi on the track and field team and have witnessed a strong, passionate, and energetic girl who adores her friends, family and sports. Teachers, coaches, and friends know Lexi to be kind, caring, and hardworking. Right now, her family and her need our support.

On June 26th, Lexi was involved in a tragic accident while riding her bike home. She was struck by an SUV and sustained multiple injuries, including severe head trauma, a broken neck, a lacerated liver, a broken pelvis and a shattered knee. She has shown improvement each day; however, it will be a long journey for Lexi and her family. Lexi is still at BC Children's hospital, awaiting more tests and surgery. Once Lexi is able to return home in the coming months, the family will require some modifications to their home to make it accessible for Lexi with her injuries and recovery. Lexi's mom is currently not working and is with Lexi at the hospital full time. Lexi has a long road ahead of her in her recovery. We know that with her strength and courage, she will be back to her spunky and sporty self.
