Miss the guy
In 2014, Jeff suffered a serious stroke. Since then he's been working hard to regain/relearn many things. His progress has been slow but steady. Sadly, things have recently taken a turn for the worse as he has been diagnosed with terminal cancer. He already appears to be in some pain but remains upbeat despite only having a short time left with us.
There is another problem. Since Jeff moved to his assisted living apartment he has benefitted from 16 hours a week (4 x 4-hour visits) from a caregiver. Having a regular visit from someone who is happy to spend time helping him has really helped with his rehabilitation as well as keeping his stuff in a tidy and clean state.
The caregiver was funded by San Mateo County who paid an agency $40 per hour for this service but unfortunately the contract with the agency has been terminated as of Jan 1, and San Mateo County will now only contribute around $12/hr. The former caregiver enjoys her time with Jeff but is unwilling to continue for less than $20 per hour which is what she was earning last year.
It has been impossible to find someone who will work for $12 per hour and even harder to find someone who knows and enjoys working with Jeff. We'd like to find a way to maintain Jeff's care with this trusted individual.
The shortfall for the next 18 months is around $8,000
Please help if you can.
Once our target has been reached I will withdraw the donations and make them available to Jeff so that he can restart his desperately needed care giving service.
