Lets find hope for Dave

Three months ago I lost someone who was very important to me. He was more than just a father to me, he was my inspiration and my friend.

He died of Small-Cell Neuroendocrine Cancer of the Prostate after just 7 short, but incredibly painful and heart wrenching months from diagnosis. Having had a sore back and shoulder for several months, he put this down to too much physical work in the garden. A trip to the emergency room revealed a pathological fracture of the clavicle, which begun a nightmare that is impossible to describe. This is such a rare form of the disease and he had to undergo excruciating tests including biopsies of his liver and of his bones to determine the type of cancer he was facing. We were hit with the news that Dad was not facing the common adenocarcinoma of the prostate but an incredibly rare and aggressive de-novo small cell tumor, which is sadly treatment resistant.

Despite this Dad was determined to fight. Together we passed the long hours in chemo, dad cracking a continuous stream of jokes and telling stories, and we were often told to keep down the noise. We would walk around places in the world on Google maps and during one particular session we even managed to a boat license. We found strength from dad, he never gave up fighting to be here, because he really loved life and he loved us.

As time passed and we watched his health decline, but not his spirt. He was truly brave in the face of what can only be described as utter agony. He was admitted to the PA hospital one friday evening in late may, where we spent 5 days by his bedside, helping him to pass peacefully.

I would like to raise money and awareness of this awful disease so that one day we may find a cure. While we cannot bring him back, what we can give is hope. Hope that one day research will provide more treatment options, which we truly would of given anything for.

I will be running the Queenstown Half Marathon on the 18th of November to honor this truly brilliant man.

Please show your support no matter how small, it all makes a difference
