Let's unite and help Jaynie fight cancer

Hi, we are friends of Jaynie, and back in February 2022, our beloved Jaynie had a routine breast mammogram and was called back for further investigation. “Don’t worry?” we all said, “I’m sure it will all be good, and if not, we will cross that bridge when we need to”.

Much to her shock and ours, there was something which turned out to be much more than nothing; Jaynie was diagnosed with Stage 3 triple negative breast cancer. This all happened so fast that it was a blur for us, her friends, let alone poor Jayne herself; however, she dealt with it head-on as she does, being such a trooper.

Along came lots of calls, appointments, biopsies and medical assessments, and it was discovered that her tumour was small and aggressive and had already spread to at least two of her lymph nodes. Jaynie ended up in the good hands of the team at Chris O’Brien Lifehouse and under the care of Oncologist Dr Mun Hui and Surgeon Dr Cindy Mak.

Jaynie is currently undergoing nine months of treatment, including intensive chemotherapy, lumpectomy and clearance surgery and then radiotherapy to treat her aggressive tumour and affected lymph nodes.

Jaynie has completed her first round of Chemo, fortnightly treatments over eight weeks with a white blood cell top-up after each cycle. She is almost through her second round of weekly treatments of Paclitaxel and Carboplatin over 12 weeks. There was a hospital admission for febrile neutropenia and other hiccups along the way, spiked temperatures, emergency dental work, eye infections and the loss of finger and toenails. Through all this, Jaynie has stayed upbeat.

She has tried to exercise when she feels up to it and cut sugar and alcohol from her diet. She has documented her journey on Instagram where you can follow @Jayne_withahintofpink

Jaynie has still managed to work but has had to scale back her hours and use all of her sick and annual leave. She has managed to pay all of her out-of-pocket expenses thus far. Having witnessed all this and knowing Jaynie, our confident, independent friend, who always endeavoured to support herself, she has reached the stage where paying for medical expenses is impossible.

Her operation is fast approaching, and even with her private health insurance, the out-of-pocket expenses will mount, so we have decided to establish a GofundMe for our girl to help lighten the load and give her the best chance of postop recovery.

We hope to raise $15,000 to help with the medical costs, her rehabilitation, and the radiotherapy needed after her operation. Any funds not utilised will be donated to Chris O’Brien Lifehouse Fund.

Once Jaynie has completed her treatment and recovered from post-op care, her goal is to return to Chris O’Brien Lifehouse as a casual volunteer to pay it forward. She wants to help others navigate their journey and hopefully guide them with the care and kindness she was offered.

Jaynie is forever grateful to have been recommended and given the opportunity to receive her treatment at such an inclusive and caring centre.

We appreciate any donation as we know that the economic climate we are currently experiencing is a tough one.

Thank you for your support and help in getting Jaynie through this.
