Welcome to take part in the realization of truly sustainable food production for today and future generations!
At the plant nursery Skogsträdgårdens Växter (Forestgarden Plants), we are propagating, growing, exploring and spreading perennial edible plants - perennial vegetables, bushes and trees. In 2017 we started to design and create forest gardens to begin with the transfer into a truly sustainable food production, but the most promising plants were missing in the nurseries. We realized we had to start collecting and propagating them ourselves. Today we have about 150 species of perennial, edible crops in the field. Now we want to scale up our work and spread plants and knowledge about forest gardens even further.
By growing perennial food crops, we capture CO2 from the air. Perennials also produce food from early spring to late autumn: from fresh salads in spring to the delight of nuts and berries in autumn. It is easy to grow a large variety of edible perennials together with bushes and trees - mimicking a natural and productive ecosystem with a huge biodiversity.
A couple of years ago we bought some land and to expand we need to buy more land.
This fundraising aims to help us buy more land to:
- Develop our site with more examples of how to grow fruits, nuts, berries and perennial vegetables together in productive ways. We’ll create a more than 1000 square meter garden next to the nursery with new varieties for future research
- Spread knowledge by inviting customers and the public to lectures, workshops and guided tours
- Invite local food producers to create and sell food based on perennials
- Dig a pond for harvesting rainwater that will be used for irrigation and enhancing the productivity of our land
