Lets make room for Caroline
Caroline Cassidy was diagnosed as a teenager in 2016 with a rare spinal tumour. Caroline has faced and continues to face many life-changing challenges. Caroline is 22 years old and is an inspirational young person living with cancer.
Caroline has been a wheelchair user for the past 2 and a half years. Living in a two-story house with no means of attaining a wheelchair lift, she has not had a bedroom of her own and has to live and sleep in the family living room. Unable to access the rest of the house and having to shield in one room has been very challenging for Caroline. It can make the world seem a small place.
We are a group of NHS nurses trying to help our friend and colleague Elaine Cassidy raise funds for home adaptions to help build her daughter Caroline a bedroom, to afford Caroline some privacy and space of her own.
Elaine has continued to work as a staff nurse in the NHS during the Covid pandemic whilst also being the primary carer for Caroline. We are amazed at how Elaine continues to be the kindest and caring nurse and with all she does for everyone else - at how much she gives to her patients and colleagues and of how little she expects from others.
Both Elaine and Caroline are truly inspirational, strong, caring women who always think of other people before themselves and never complain.
Let's make room for Caroline, room in our lives, room in our hearts, a bedroom
