Let's help My Sister's Closet Kanata!

June 6th would have marked My Sister’s Closet 25th Anniversary.
This store has seen many generations pass through its doors and watched them grow up; from babies to mothers, to grandparents! It has been the first job for many young students over the years, many who now have families of their own that come in, reminiscing of the days their mothers used to bring them shopping. In short, MSC has been a pillar in this community and its closure marks 'the end of an era' as quoted from the outpouring of support on their Facebook page.

Owner, Julie Sheaves, has been at the mercy of this virus and the government’s bi-weekly decisions, has held on to the business in hopes that it could return. No one thought we would be here a year later and it is no longer an option for her to pay out of pocket the debts that have accumulated. Who could of foreseen the length this pandemic would last?

So what is My Sister’s Closet? MSC provides a place for people to 'recycle' their quality clothing & accessories and give it a chance to find use with someone else. It provides a little extra income for the consignor and saves money for the customer. Most importantly, it helps our environment by keeping it out of the landfills. Mindful consumption is the growing trend. Its about social responsibility and it feels good to do our part, MSC provides a place to do this. To find that perfect dress! To score a designer piece you couldn't afford otherwise! But it's not just that.

It's been a place for retail therapy , a place to drop by even if just for a chat or quick hello. It's been a go to place for those struggling with anxiety, unable to go to the big box stores, seniors having to downsize their closets as they move into a new stage in life, those going through their weight loss journey, whether it be due to sickness or for personal reasons, those going through gender transitioning, needing maybe a little more privacy but looking for help as they try and define their style. Teachers needing clothes and supplies for their students, single parents trying to make ends meet.. MSC is all of this and more.

I have seen firsthand how Julie and her staff at My Sister's Closet have been an integral part of our community.

If this campaign can provide anything, it would be to save a business that is needed, especially in our current environment. Any money raised will be used to alleviate the debt incurred during the past year as well as to give MSC a fighting chance to survive this pandemic.

My Sister’s Closet has been a huge part of our community and now needs your help in whatever way possible. If you have the means, please consider donating. Any amount is welcome and appreciated. Please share this so we can spread the
message and please keep supporting your local small businesses ♡
