On Sunday, January 10th, 2021 Savannah Lantz, was rushed to the emergency room in Yellowknife, NT (Canada) after having a seizure in her home. Utilizing the NWT’s 9-1-1 Emergency system was a saving grace for Savannah and Tanya Lantz (her mom) in their moment of need.

After multiple days of testing and a second seizure while at the hospital, the doctors required Savannah and her mom to fly down to Edmonton, AB. This was to determine cause of the seizures with Neurologists. Testing in Alberta found a temporal lobe brain lesion and a collection of abnormal cells that requires a brain biopsy. This specialized surgery will require another trip to Edmonton and further time away from the comfort of home, family and friends.

During this journey and healing process there are many questions and the focus for Savannah and her mom should be on healing and love.

If further testing or surgery is required after the biopsy it will include more trips to Edmonton, AB. There is Medical Travel assistance that will be helping Savannah and Tanya Lantz for basic costs during these procedures. This financial assistance covers costs such as: flights, meals and accommodations as warranted. Often times the costs are covered out of pocket and then recoverable, adding additional stress to the families needing immediate medical attention.

Since the beginning of January, Savannah has had reduced income as a result of these health developments.  Her mother will be in the same situation this month. In efforts to monitor the seizures and reduce risk mom and daughter have been constant companions. If anyone knows them, they know that Elvis was definitely in that mix giving extra love (their dog).

Covid-19 restrictions in place for the NWT require 14 day self-isolation plans for travellers entering the NWT. It is necessary to help contain, reduce and prevent the virus from spreading to northern communities. It does add additional planning and costs for those needing  Medical Travel since the pandemic started.

In the next couple weeks, Savannah and her mom will once again travel to Edmonton, Alberta to see the specialist for the Temporal Lobe Brain Biopsy. While we wait for more answers and the next steps, we are asking for your help during this difficult time.

For those who don’t know Savannah Lantz, she is a remarkable young woman embarking on a passionate start to empower her fellow Indigenous people. Had Covid-19 not changed, the travel plans globally, Savannah would have been in New York at the United Nations in 2020 representing the NWT.

Any contribution made is deeply appreciated by Savannah Lantz and her mom (Tanya Lantz). We would like to thank all that reach out with their comments, prayers, love and support during these trying times.

Please feel free to share this post.

With gratitude, Savannah Lantz and Tanya Lantz
