SKAGIT RIVER RANCH - Family Who Feeds Us All

Donation protected
Skagit River Ranch, friendly face of Seattle Farmers Markets in Ballard, U-District and in old times West Seattle Farmers market. Always there, rain, shine for us. They have been feeding us, our families all these years rain or shine. They have helped us celebrate our special days and Holidays with their amazing meat products, eggs and chickens. Even this past weekend, when they knew the roads would be closed, they packed up the truck, drove over, spent the night out and brought food to farmers markets.
The recent rainstorm, atmospheric river, however, took a lot from them. They not only lost some of their livestock yet some part of their land as well. It is definitely not easy to be a farmer and Eiko and Nicole with the help of their staff have been going strong. The excerpt below is from their Facebook page:

This was the worst flood since 2003. The Skagit River crested at 11 feet above the flood level last night. The farm becomes "an island" in a severe flood with water on the road too deep to cross. I stayed at the farm to tend to the animals. Nicole and the crew did a lot of preparation before the flood, so the chores were simple. But it was still pretty hard for this old farmer to do alone, I hate to admit. I am grateful that we did not lose power, which would have activated another emergency step to start the backup generator, etc.
The river is now slowly receding, and we should be able to assess the damage by tomorrow. The crew should be able to cross the road with a tractor by this afternoon, and I can hand over the heavy work to them. Knowing what it felt like in 2003 helped us plan for this flood. I guess there is something to be said about 25 years of experience lodged in my brain. I am really proud of Nicole and her crew of handling this emergency with calm and efficiency. Now we will pick up the pieces and go on farming.

I wholeheartedly believe that now is our time to be part of their farm, and show how much they are loved not only in Skagit River area but all over Greater Seattle Area. Holidays are around the corner and they are still working hard to be there for us. Let's show them love, and support them, contribute to help them heal and continue strong.
