Let’s help Melissa beat Breast Cancer!

This, my friends, is my lovely friend Melissa. On September 21st Melissa found out that she was diagnosed with Metaplastic Carcinoma. Metaplastic Carcinoma impacts 1% of all breast cancers out there. At the age of 38 this was not expected or planned for but Melissa is facing this head on. Due to the rarity of this type of cancer Melissa consulted with both the Elliot Hospital and Massachusetts General Hospital and ultimately decided to proceed with treatment and surgery at Massachusetts General on November 10th. Surgery isn’t going to resolve this issue. After surgery Melissa will need to wait 4-6 weeks and will then start chemotherapy which will last another 4-6 weeks. After her chemotherapy treatment she may then face radiation. Ultimately, this is a long road. This equals a lot of days off from work. This equals the reality of large medical bills and making ends meet.
I asked Mel if I could start this request as I want to do something, anything to bring her peace while she tackles and climbs this mountain. More than having cancer Mel is a mom, a single mom, to an amazing almost 10 year old, AJ. The goal for any mom is to keep your kids world as “normal” as possible and any little bit will help maintain their expenses and keep their world right side up. Mel is a fiercely loyal friend and is not one to ask for help. She is surrounded by her sisters and friends that are going to lift her up, help with getting her back and forth to Boston but she still needs help. If you wonder, like I did, of what you can do to help, this is it. Any little bit helps.
We will keep you updated through her journey of kicking cancers butt!
