Lets help Martin get a race bike!

Querida comunidad ciclista, 

Todos hemos escuchado el dicho "no es la bici, es el mono", refiriendoce a que tan bueno es un ciclista. La mayoria de las veces estoy de acuerdo con ese dicho, pero tambien hay veces cuando la abilidad del ciclista sobrepasa los limites de la bicicleta con la que corre.

esta es la razon por la cual les escribo. Un muy buen amigo mio que ha estado compitiendo en bicicleta los ultimos 7 anos, en distancias de maraton y ultramaraton, ha llegado a ese punto al cual su bicicleta no le llega al nivel de sus habilidades, y hasta cierto punto, no le esta permitiendo deasrrollar su habilidad. 

Estoy hablando de Martin Garcia, de Cd. Juarez, Chih. El empezo a andar en bici como modo de transporte a su trabajo. Una hora en bici, agregandole el peso de su hijo de 9 anos el cual dejaba y recojia de la escuela a la mitad de la distancia entre su casa y su trabajo. Despues de haber escuchado del evento Chupacabras 100km, decidio adentrarse mas al ciclismo y empezar la carrera con muy poco entrenamiento. Para su sorpresa, acabo la carrera de 100 kilometros en su bicicleta de rodada 26" hasta con el rack en el  cual su hijo se sentaba cuando lo llevaba a la escuela, y en un tiempo muy bueno considerando que era nuevo en el ciclismo. como todos los ciclistas, esto sirvio para derse cuenta de cuanto le gustaba el ciclismo y fue cuando decidio comprarse una bicicleta para correr, de 21 velocidades y rodada 29" la cual ahorita esta valuada en $250.

Martin ha estado entrenando y corriendo con esta bicicleta los ultimos cuantos anos y estoy decidido a conseguirle una bicicleta nueva que sea digna de la habilidad pero mas que nada de una persona tan humilde, que siempre pone a otros antes que el mismo. 
Desafortunadamente yo no tengo la oportunidad de comprarle la bicicleta solo y es por lo que les estoy pidiendo que nos ayuden a llegar a la meta de $1500 usd. cualquier cantidad que puedan donar sera una gran ayuda para esta causa.

Dear Cycling community,

We have all heard the saying that it is not the bicycle, but the legs that make a good cyclist. While I generally agree with this statement, there are instances where the rider's ability is well above the intended use of the bicycle he/she rides. 

This is the reason why I am reaching out to all of you. A great friend of mine who has been racing mountain bikes for the past 7 years competitively, mostly marathon and ultra-marathon distances, has gotten to that point where his bicycle does not reach his needs and is hindering his full potential.

I am talking about Martin Garcia, a shoe-shiner from Juarez Mexico. He started riding his bicycle as a mode of transportation in his (our) hometown. A one hour commute to work with an added load of a 9 year old who had to be dropped off at school half of the way to work, and picked up on his way back from work. After hearing from a couple of his clients about bicycle racing and the iconic local race "Chupacabras 100km" he decided to give cycling a shot. He raced it with his 26er and the padded rear pannier rack (where his kid would sit) and to his surprise he did significantly well, finishing a 62 mile race that is considered one of the hardest in Mexico. Needless to say, just like all of us, he got hooked. After a couple years of racing a few friends helped him purchase a 29"er, 3x7 speed Specialized that is currently valued at around $250.

He has been training and racing on it for the past several years, and I am set in getting him a mountain bike that is worthy of his ability and his humbleness. Unfortunately, as a grad student living off student loans this isn't possible without all of your help. Any amount you can donate to this cause will make a world of difference for him.
