Let's Help Aida Aroni With Her Medical Bills

Aida Aroni es una activista peruana quien enfrentó a la policía durante las protestas en todo el Perú contra el gobierno represivo de Dina Boluarte. Valientemente ella cargó una bandera peruana en frente de los oficiales mientras los increpaba sobre la represión que estos realizaron contra los protestantes en otras regiones y el uso indiscriminado de bombas lacrimogenas. Para ese entonces, docenas de peruanos habían muerto a causa de la represión de la policía y el ejército.

Por su valentía, Aida fue brutalmente arrestada e incluso su bandera fue pisoteada por la policía. Fue interrogada y detenida sin cargos por más de 48 horas; y las autoridades no prestaron atención a sus quejas de la mala manera que la trataron. No es la primera vez que ella experimenta represión por parte del estado ya que su padre fue asesinada por el régimen de Fujimori en los 90 cuando este impuso un golpe de queda.

Aida dijo a su vez, "Yo no lucho con palos, yo no lucho con piedras. No me important si me discriminan, si me llaman serrana, si me llaman chola, si me llaman india. Yo estoy orgullosa. Estoy luchando por mi país."

En estos momentos esta valiente mujer está siendo tratada de cáncer. Con el alto costo de la atención médica es importante que su comunidad le dé una mano para cubrir el tratamiento necesario para salvar su vida. Aida Aroni is a Peruvian activist who confronted the police during last year's nationwide demonstrations in Peru against the repressive government of Dina Boluarte. She valiantly carried a Peruvian flag in front of them, and questioned them about the repression they were conducting against protesters in other regions, and their indiscriminate use of tear gas. By that time, dozens of Peruvians had been killed by the police and military repression of the demonstrations.

For her bravery, she was brutally arrested, and even her flag was stepped on by the police. She was questioned and held without charges for more than 48 hours, and the authorities paid no attention to her complaints about the ill treatment she received. She is no stranger to political repression, for her own father was killed by the Fujimori regime in the 90s when this one imposed martial law.

She once said, "I don't fight with sticks, I don't fight with stones. I don't care if they discriminate against me, if they call me serrana, if they call me chola, if they call me Indian, whatever, I feel proud. I am fighting for my country."

Now, this brave woman is undergoing cancer treatment. With the high cost of medical attention, it is important for her community to giver her a hand to cover the treatment necessary to save her life. If 200 of us donated $5 each, we could cover $1000 worth of medical treatment which in Peru it would go a long way.
