Help North Tees Diabetes Unit

Donation protected

Hi there, my name is Jamie and I’ve been living with type one diabetes for eighteen years.

In September 2021 I will be taking part in a 24 hour walk from York Minster to Swainby. The total distance is over 50 miles.

I am doing this walk in aid of the Diabetes Unit at North Tees Hospital. I’m currently in talks with them about the logistics of a donation but my aim to raise money to purchase at least one insulin pump or Continuous Glucose Monitor that can be given to a patient with diabetes.

Pumps and CGMs are expensive (around £3,500 for the pump and CGM combined). These are provided by the NHS for those who qualify and as you can imagine this adds significant cost to our increasingly strained NHS.

Having used an insulin pump for the last 5 years, I have noticed a huge transformation in my treatment and I believe that the long term benefits make the cost worthwhile.

This is why I would like to make this contribution and help people who are less fortunate and do not qualify for NHS funding. With this tech they can live a less restricted life with diabetes and reduced risk of long term complications.

This walk will be a big challenge for me. I work as a web developer which means I’m sat at my desk for long periods of time. I’m lucky I log more than 800 steps some days!

Any donation, no matter how small or big, is a huge contribution to the cause and I hope you can help me achieve this goal!
