Lets help 4yr old Roxy's fight against Leukemia

Donation protected
Roxy Austin 4years old (dob 4/1/2017) daughter of Rebecca Wright Austin & Dylan Austin, and the littlest sister to Talon 8yrs & Kirra 6yrs.

Roxy just 4 weeks ago was running around as the care-free, vibrant, happy, caring, and loving little girl that she is. Excited to start Kindergarten next year and loving every moment she could be outside or playing with her brother & Sister. However, on the 19th of August Roxy had a trip to Bupa dentist in Mayfield and didn’t return home that day. The incredible Dentist detected a concerning mouth abscess and sent her up to the hospital to have it looked at. Just 5 hrs later their whole world felt like it came crumbling down as they were told Roxy has acute lymphocytic (lymphoblastic) leukemia (ALL) Type B.

Just 3 days later, Monday 23rd August, she went into theatre for a Lumbar Puncture and by Tuesday had started chemotherapy. She is receiving treatment in the Oncology unit at John Hunter Children’s hospital where she has the most amazing treatment team. She currently has chemotherapy weekly, requires steroids along with many other daily medications to protect body organs during chemotherapy. In addition to this she receives platelets and/or red blood infusions depending on her blood results which are checked regularly. Along with Bone marrow biopsies and aspirates, & lumbar puncture which are done throughout all phases to see how well the leukemia is responding to treatment. Treatment is 2-3 years for hopefully full remission and cure after 5 yrs.

Roxy and the family, not surprisingly, have been amazing throughout it all and have such an inspiring outlook on life. Roxy has just taken it all in her stride and still manages the sweetest & cheekiest smile you will ever see despite the battle she is enduring. It’s a rollercoaster ride of emotions and experiences for the journey ahead, one that most of us could never imagine. Childhood cancer is an illness that effects the whole family and all aspects of life; physically, socially, emotionally, and financially. This GoFundMe page has been set up in the hopes we can ease just one of the many pressures they are faced with. Money won’t be able to change the fact that Roxy has Leukemia, nor will it make the journey through cancer shorter, but it certainly will ease some of the financial stressor’s cancers has. Including, but not limited to; Medical Bills, the costs of additional medication that may be required at times, time off work, the extra food they need to buy because of the amount of steroids Roxy needs to be on, extra cleaning & hygiene products due to her susceptibility to infections, meals during hospital stays, parking, petrol, child-care arrangements, the list goes on. Especially next year whilst they will be trying to juggle 3 kids at school and cancer treatment.
This family is one of the most beautiful little tribes you will ever meet and the first to put their hands up to help wherever help is needed. Now it’s time for us to share some of the love & generosity back to them and help our little Super Star Roxy whilst she battles this Leukemia head on.

Every little bit makes a difference so please never underestimate your worth & value in helping to make a difference for the Austin family.

Information on ALL:
Acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) is a type of cancer that affects the blood and bone marrow. ALL is characterised by an overproduction of immature white blood cells, called lymphoblast's or leukemic blasts. Because the bone marrow is unable to make adequate numbers of red cells, normal white cells and platelets, people with ALL become more susceptible to anemia, recurrent infections, and to bruising and bleeding easily. The blast cells can then spill out of the bone marrow into the bloodstream and accumulate in various organs including the lymph nodes (glands), spleen, liver and central nervous system (brain and spinal cord).
