Let's give back to Reg Lambert

My name is Jacques Boonzaaier and I have the honour of being the Secretary for the PeelConnect Incorporated management committee. PeelConnect was started by a wonderful man by the name of Reg Lambert, our local hero!

Apart from being recognised in the 2020 Peel Vollies award, Reg was also a State Finalist for Senior Australian of the Year in 2018. Reg and Bet (his wife) stopped their pension and lived on the streets for 4 years, He was 80 then and Bet was 78. He has spent over 30 years visiting folk on the street, talking to them, taking out a blanket, food and hot drinks. Reg has always wanted a Crisis facility where anyone could get a safe bed and have agencies provide support. Many people on the street are not there by choice and some are ex pastors, politicians, CEO‘s whilst others are just “normal” families that have experienced life-changing events.
Reg was walking the street until late last year. He developed dizzy spells and has fallen several times. This year he has been admitted to Peel Health Campus 3 times. Now he is not able to live independently and requires a bed in an Aged Care facility. His care is expected to cost at least AU$10k for a few years, depending on life expectancy and it is my hope that we can raise at least that much.
Reg has given everything, literally, to those in need, who are troubled, those left out in the cold. I hope to at least give Reg a decent place to live out his last years, months, weeks or days with decent care and comfort. Reg certainly deserves this after all that he has done for others.
