Lets get Tahira from shelter to permanent housing

Hi, my name is Donna, and I'm fundraising for Tahira/Basketball. For those of you that have not been introduced to Tahira, this is her story:

 

My first introduction to Tahira was in 2018; I met her on the upper west side in front of the supermarket where she was asking for money. This young woman has had quite an extremely difficult journey and a very challenging and egregious environment to grow up in. After getting to know her, I made a decision in the midst of the pandemic to help change her situation. First we were able to get her a room in an apartment (first time she's had her own bed) then, we were able to get her some furniture and clothing. Second, we secured her a part time job (which has now turned into a full time job) she's been at the same job for a year now! Lastly, we got her a bank account, in order to work on getting her a good credit rating.

 

It has been quite a process, she has never worked or had an education - I could not be more proud of where we are at this point and I'd like to continue to elevate her situation. She's now working full time and also taking online classes, unfortunately, she's been displaced from her apartment (for no fault of her own, her landlord's child took over her room.) So we had to make the decision to put her back into the shelter, so she could be eligible for section 8. This is why I'm reaching out again, we need to build up her funds so that we can successfully make a move into a new permanent apartment.

 

Any money from this gofundme is going directly to set up Tahiri in her new apartment. Section 8 is much more secure than dealing with an individual person. She won't be at the whim of just one individual renting a room. She has a caseworker who has advised us that Tahira's best chance of getting into section 8 is for her to show more financial security.

So here we are people, I'm reaching out to ask for your help. We'd like to see if we can get her out in the next two months. I appreciate anything you can give, to let our girl blossom even further.
