Let's come together to help a young entreprenuer!

Karen Selk and Linda LaBelle have joined forces to raise money to help Raja Boro a bright, young entrepreneur with a big heart from Assam, India.

The following from Karen Selk - "We met just before covid at the end of 2019 when he first got his business Assam Silk started. The impetus to start the venture was a desire to make a better life for his mother, auntie, and the women of his village. He worked for a shopkeeper that sold the beautiful handwoven eri silk scarves they made for eight times more than he was paying the weavers. Raja did not think this was right. His father died when he was six years old. His mother supported them with her spinning and weaving of eri silk. Raja worked as well and graduated from college with a business and commerce degree. He says. "I have always been interested in spinning and weaving because that is my heritage. I want to keep eri silk alive. It is my dream to build a nice house for my mum and a studio so my weavers can work together. I will show my guests from other countries our traditions." Since that visit, Raja has built a small studio with four looms. That stretched his resources to the max. Now he needs our help to move forward and buy yarn and fiber to continue weaving. The handwoven material they produce is of the highest quality. It is important to support eri silk, handwoven cloth, and the skilled people who provide such a treasure for us."
