As many of you all know I (Lynn Yeboah) have a strong passion for policy debate and so does another North Star debater, Raveen Bryant. We have been in the activity since 2015 and over the years we have been perfecting our skills in this activity as we have traveled all over the country with the help of our school. Next school year will be our last year of high school debate and we both are hoping to go out with a bang.
This year in the summer of 2018 Raveen and I hope to attend one of the most prestigious high school debate workshops, the Race Kritical Scholar program at Wake Forest University. Raveen and I will be spending four weeks at Wake Forest beginning in the month of July. This is an amazing summer debate program for high school debaters that provides exceptional oral training and helps students benefit their argumentation skills. The program has an all-star staff of coaches who have multiple Tournament of Champion winners and numerous collegiate championships.
Because of the workshops great staff and ranking it is very pricey. Raveen and I will be paying $4,300 each for the four week institution. We are hoping to get the maximum amount of scholarship from the camp (50%) to reduce both of our cost. This will leave us both to pay $4,300 in total. These remaining fees are definitely a burden on both of our families as we both fall below the national poverty line. Because of this we are kindly asking for you all to help us raise this money by July 1st, 2018.
The first camp deposit is due in the month of March and will cost $750 for each of us. Al though the camp is pricey we believe our social locations and low incomes should not shut us out of wonderful opportunities.
By helping us make it to camp you will be supporting the voices of Black women and helping our voices be integrated into prestigious institutes like debate. Please #LetBlackGirlsDebate again!
