Let's Save The Mercury Lounge!

The Mercury Lounge is one of the only vestiges of true independent local coolness in Santa Barbara county. A longtime hub for arts, music, vintage kitsch and great beer and wine, the Merc is a warm and welcome gathering place for people of all kinds. It is a hub for UCSB grad students and intellectuals and it is an important music venue that is desperately needed in our area. Not to mention, the Mercury boasts one of the coolest Tiki patios on the Central Coast.
I worked at the Mercury for 8 wonderful years, during some of the best times of my life. I’m sure many of you, like me, cannot imagine Goleta without the Mercury.
Restaurants and bars all over the country are suffering because of Covid. The very fabric of our community would change if we lost the Mercury Lounge. If you live in Santa Barbara or Goleta, chances are you’ve been to the Mercury over the past decade or more. Now the Merc has been hit hard by the closures and mandates and they are sinking. Imagine our town with no local pubs, but only big chain places to go for a drink! We can pull together our community and float the Merc’s boat. It’s really crucial. Give what you can today. Every dollar adds up, no contribution too small.. We can DO THIS. We can save the Mercury!

We can't thank everyone enough for reaching out over the past 7 months. I get messages weekly from regulars who are anxious to get back to the lounge and inquires about how people can help us. We love our Merc community! We were able to get a small amount of PPP money in June but that was quickly used up for day to day expenses. We are in the process of opening up the patio and I built a new patio in the back parking lot! Donations will be used for permit fees, insurance coverage, inventory (all the inventory I had in March has gone bad or out of date), rent and utilities. We will be operating at a much smaller volume and no live music for a long time. I am not one to ask for help, but in these times, in order to keep the doors open, we must do what we can.
