Fortune Learners Centre, a non-profit community-based organisation in Kayole, Nairobi was founded in 2013 with a vision to support orphans and vulnerable children from the slums of Nairobi and Kendu Bay area through education, economic empowerment and HIV/AIDS awareness with an emphasis on psycho-social support to vulnerable children and their caregivers. Today, 203 children benefit from the community centre, 147 of whom are orphans.
Currently, Fortune Learner's Centre operates from a rental premise in Kayole and we are struggling to pay our outstanding rent for the year 2017 and 2018. If we don't manage to collect enough funds to close our overdue rental payments, we will be forced to shut the school down.
This school is the only home our children have, it's where they learn, play and spend all their time, even during the summer holidays. The school is their only means to 2 full meals a day, and in some cases, the only place safe for them and definitely the only means for them to complete their education and have a chance at a better life.
We are struggling to collect funds to close our rental payments and would like to do this without using the little money we receive as sponsorship that is used to fulfil our primary purpose of providing the children meals, paying for their exams and making sure they have the bare necessities to get them through school.
Every donation, no matter how little, will bring us closer to owning our own premises, hereby also allowing us to invest in lighting and plumbing.
We would also appreciate it if you could share our campaign and help us reach out to more people who care!
