Let's End Hungry Season
Donation protected
Hello! My team and I have had the privilege of teaching English to Mercy High School - a school located in Lilongwe, Malawi under an organization called MercyCare. We recently noticed that most of our students have been getting sick, falling asleep in class (even our best and brightest), or not even showing up at all. After some inquiring, the conclusion was that this time in Malawi (January-March) is known as "Hungry Season." This is a direct result of many family's stocks of maize dwindling from the past harvest, and all their money being put towards the upcoming harvest season. This year has been especially impactful due to the unusually dry rainy season.
Our goal is to give back to the wonderful students who have given so much to us. We want to raise money to provide the students with a snack twice a week for 16 weeks (the upcoming term). We calculate that this will cost around $4,500 to provide every student with a snack to help them get through the day and continue to learn without the distraction of hunger. We don't have a lot of time because the new term begins on April 9th! Please consider donating to help us ease the burden of "Hungry Season." Thank you.
