Getting Leila straight back...into it.
Leila Bennadi 14 from West London is a successful elite gymnast with Heathrow Gymnastics Club who has competed at both the English and British Championships. https://www.heathrowgymnastics.org.uk/
Leila's Head Coach, Michèle Walduck, noted changes in Leila's spine, having being diagnosed with Scoliosis herself whilst studying at the Royal Ballet School, White Lodge. https://www.royalballetschool.org.uk/discover/about-us/
Sadly, Leila has recently been diagnosed with severe Scoliosis, which if not treated, will not only end her career as a gymnast , but would be life changing. Worryingly, given the rate of progression of the curve in her spine, if not treated immediately she will be outside the parameters for treatment.
If she fuses, she loses.
Treatment in the UK for Leila is complicated by the fact that she also has a growth hormone deficiency and the only treatment option here is to fuse her spine, but if she does that she will never grow.
Our research has led us to a breakthrough treatment called Vertebral Body Tethering (VBT) which is available in continental Europe and the US. It was recently featured on the BBC. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-wales-43642062
