Lego Lakes - a work in progress

Hi. I am an artist based in Derbyshire with a life-long interest in the Lake District and a love of LEGO.

During the pandemic, I began to make a replica of the landscape of the Lake District in LEGO. Having started with Buttermere and Crummock Water, the model has continued to grow. It now covers other well-known areas such as the Honister Pass, Ennerdale, Borrowdale and Derwentwater. There are plenty of peaks included too, such as Haystacks, Catbells, Fleetwith Pike and Great Gable. At a scale of 1:3125, the model currently covers 133 square feet, representing 47 square miles of the Lake District, and there is another 6 square miles already in the making. In total, the model contains over 200,000 pieces of LEGO.

Lots of people have already enjoyed seeing the model. After initially being displayed in Belper Library, it was then exhibited very successfully for three months at the Jetty Museum in Windermere. It is great to hear visitors share their memories of playing with LEGO as a child or of their own visits to the Lakes. The model will next be on display in the Derby Museum of Making from 26 January until Easter 2024 (https://derbymuseums.org/event/lego-lake-district) .

I would like to be able to keep adding more lakes and mountains so that more people can enjoy seeing the Lakes in miniature. This is where you can help me!
