What Happened?
Aidan and Jon were arrested in Atlanta and will need to travel back and forth for court. Please help them get there!
Aidan McCarthy and Jon Moore are residents of Winston-Salem, NC. Aidan is a 17-year-old student attending Reagan High School. Jon is a 29-year-old librarian working at Wake Forest University. Aidan and Jon are committed environmental protectors, and care deeply about justice for our communities.

What's Needed?
As residents of Winston-Salem, we will frequently need to make the long trip to Atlanta to deal with the Atlanta courts. This will inevitably cause both of us to miss necessary work hours. We'll also need funds to pay for legal representation from an attorney familiar with civil rights litigation.
Funds raised through this campaign will help us cover these three expenses:
- Travel costs between Atlanta, GA and Winston-Salem, NC
- Lost income from missing work
- Fees to hire legal representation
We're only estimating our costs based on advice and research from others. If we end up needing less money than we're requesting here, we plan to donate the remainder to Appalachians Against Pipelines.
When do you need it?
Aidan has already received a court date of October 14, 2019. Jon's court date is TBA. We have 2 weeks to prepare for this! This need is URGENT. Please help if you can.
What if I can't donate?
Any amount, no matter how small, will help us! But there are lots of other ways you can help if you don't have the spare funds.
If you or anyone you know is in Atlanta and can offer free lodging, that will keep costs down significantly. If you have recommendations for criminal defense lawyers in the Atlanta area, please send them to us! We also need emotional support from our community. A kind word can go a long way.
