Leah Herbert

Let me please introduce Leah Herbert.  In trying to describe this sweet kid, I could think f not a single negative attribute.  She is an  unbelievably caring, kind, smart, and beautiful young woman.  This young lady is the type of person to give you her last dime, help someone in need, make you laugh, and continuously carries a smile in the face of adversity.   

Last weekend, the  jet ski she was on caught  a bad Lake Michigan wave, and she crashed into the pier, critically injured she was airlifted to Grand Rapids where she is awaiting surgery as soon as she is a bit more stable.  She has suffered severe head injuries as well as a spinal injury.   Her recovery will be lengthy, and her medical costs incurred will be high.  She has been cognitive to some extent, trying to move and sit up.  The doctors are keeping her heavily sedated until her surgery can be performed this coming Tuesday. 

All of us who are lucky enough to know her, understand what a fighter she is. Those of you who do not know Leah,  she is that girl next door, the person you trust, laugh with, want to hang around due to her simple zest for life, and selfless persona. The last few years, she has battled skin cancer, had surgery,  all  while completing an associate degree technical program at the local college.  Not many people knew this about her. She never complained, simply carried on.  Even on the most difficult days, she carried those around her with her smile and happiness  with her own health in jeopardy.   Now, it's our turn to be the amazing friend to her, that she is to everyone else. There are many of us who feel like our hands are tied in respect to helping Leah and her family, yet this is a great way to help her in her time of need.
