Homeward Bound is a leadership training program which was founded with the mission to build a global collaboration of 1000 women with backgrounds in Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics, and Medicine. It is a year-long program which culminates in an immersive, 18-day voyage to Antarctica.
Homeward Bound aims to demonstrate a new model of leadership, led with the intention of being inclusive, collaborative, legacy-minded, and trustworthy with assets of both people and money. By cultivating a network of women with STEMM backgrounds who have also received training in this new model of leadership, we believe we can create better outcomes for the planet.
Antarctica was chosen as the destination for this program because of its representation of the fragility of the natural world as well as its ability to inspire awe and commitment. It was also chosen intentionally because its inherent isolation enforces the time for self-reflection and implementation of newly learned leadership strategies.
Homeward Bound selected me as one of the 80 women across the globe to join their fifth cohort. We were selected as leaders who have the capacity to influence change on a global level. This is an incredible honor and I am beyond thrilled to have been selected to join this incredible team of brilliant and passionate scientists!
The total program cost is greatly subsidized by the generous donations of Homeward Bound's partners. However, fundraising is still a significant part of the program, and I would greatly appreciate your financial support in any way you are able.
The anticipated costs are as follows:
- $17,000 Program Cost (including yearlong leadership training and voyage to Antarctica, exclusive of the items below)
- $600-$900 Antarctic clothing
- $3000 Travel to and from Ushuaia, Argentina (voyage launch point)
- $50-$100 Transfers between airports and hotels
- $100-$300 Travel insurance
- $75-$150 Carbon offsetting the voyage
- $3000-$4000 Lost income during 3 week voyage
Although the cost is broken down into multiple payments, the final payment is due *May 22nd, 2020.*
By financially supporting my leadership journey, you will be acknowledging that you too believe in my potential for leadership and capacity to influence change. I cannot thank you enough for this support!
