Commemorative Tree for Kathleen

Donation protected
Kathleen Robertson was a beloved member of the Springfield family who unfortunately lost her courageous battle with cancer this past September.  She was an incredible caregiver to Kenzie, her granddaughter (and one of our THON children), as well as a grandmotherly figure to all the members of Springfield.  For more about Kenzie and Kathleen's story, you can watch this brief video .

To honor Kathleen's incredible love and spirit, as well as to provide Kenzie with a tangible way to remember her grandmother whenever she visits Penn State, we hope to plant a cherry tree on campus near Simmons Hall.  We thought a cherry tree would be most appropriate because Kathleen was a huge lover of cardinals (they will eat the fruit) and because cherry blossoms are a frequent symbol in anime, of which Kenzie is a huge fan.

The $1600 will cover the cost of the tree, its installation, and its future maintenance, as well as the accompanying commemorative plaque.  We hope this to be a gift of Springfield's Alumni, to show Kenzie that we are all with her through this tough time.  If everyone on the alumni listserv were to donate just $10-15, we would easily meet our goal.

We hope we can raise the funds quickly and present Kenzie with this gift during THON 2015 (February 20-22).  If you choose to donate, PLEASE feel free to leave a short message to Kenzie or a memory about Kathleen, so we can give them to Kenzie during THON weekend.
