LBU journey to Jean Pictet; your support matters!!

Donation protected

We, Manjila Gnawali, Simana Thapa Chhetri, and Srijana Yadav, are dedicated law students currently enrolled in the BA.LL.B program at Lumbini Buddhist University, Nepal. It is with great honor that our team of three members has been chosen to proudly represent our university in the 44th edition of the Jean Pictet Competition, marking the first time our institution has participated in this prestigious event.

The Jean Pictet Competition stands as an international-level event, renowned worldwide for its emphasis on International Humanitarian Law (IHL). Having the main objective ‘To take the Law Out of the Books’, i.e. To apply legal principles in real-world scenarios, the competition offers a unique chance for the law students to gain expertise through simulations, promoting international cooperation and understanding of International Humanitarian Law. In this manner, participating in the Jean Pictet Competition is not only a dream for every law student but also a historic opportunity for both our team and our university.

Amidst the toughness in the preliminary round against law schools worldwide, our team secured a place in the main competition through dedication, hard work, and a passion for the field of law. The 44th edition of this international-level competition is to be held in Pokhara, Nepal from 19 to 26 April 2024. Given that the event will take place in our homeland, we are eager not to let this opportunity pass us by as this will be a valuable opportunity for learning and exchange, highlighting a significant milestone in our legal education journey.

Being an international-level event, it requires a certain amount to be registered as participants. The registration fee for the competition amounts to 1250 euros($1370). Realizing this was a huge amount, the team requested the universality fund. As a result, the Competition Organizer decided to decrease our fees from 1250 euros($1370) to 750 euros ($822). This demonstrates the merit and significance of our participation in this competition.

We have gathered 450 euros through family support out of the total 750 euros required. However, we still face a shortfall of 300 euros which is equivalent to 328 USD as of now to cover the remaining registration fee. As full-time students, it is challenging for us to gather the required funds independently. Despite our best efforts, we have been unable to secure local sponsors to support us in this endeavor.
So, kindly Join us in backing our endeavor to represent LBU at the Jean-Pictet Competition! Beyond financial support, you can contribute by spreading the word or offering words of encouragement. Every type of support plays a vital role in advancing our project. Together, we can make this opportunity a reality. You can join us on our path to excellence by making a donation. Your support is highly appreciated. Thank you sincerely for your generosity and trust!

P.S. - The GoFundMe platform does not support donations directly into Nepal hence, the current crowdfunding is being managed in USA by a close family member.
