Layla’s life saving Mast Cell Tumor surgery!
As a volunteer of the Mahoning County Pound, I’m so lucky to meet hundreds of amazing dogs all the time but then one day I came across a very special girl sitting so nicely in her kennel just letting out big cries when I’d walk past. Her name was Roz. After getting her out & bringing her into the play room I was instantly in love unlike ever before. She would not leave my side, she just stared at me and wanted to be held by me. Although I already have 3 other dogs of my own who keep me busy, I knew she had to come home with me. I’ve never met a dog as sweet, gentle and full of life as my girl Layla (previously named Roz).
On October 23rd, my boyfriend and I adopted Layla and she came home to live happily ever after with me & her 3 other fur brothers. Since then she has brought so many people joy, whether that be by meeting them at the park, in family, farm and home store or even family and friends coming to visit her.
Exactly one month later, I noticed a lump appear on her leg nearly over night. I knew something wasn’t right about it so I got her to the vet that week to have it tested- sure enough it came back a cancerous Mast Cell Tumor. The following week she had the tumor surgically removed and I was informed it was deeper into her muscle than they anticipated so sent into an oncologist to determine if she had clear margins... most unfortunately they informed us she does not have clear margins even after the tumor removal & upon further testing and analyzing with Pittsburgh Veterinary Specialty they have found ANOTHER Mast Cell Tumor that was originally believed to be nothing of concern.
After emptying my wallets to save this girl & give her the life she deserves, I now must reach out to the community to help with this second tumor removal. We appreciate you more than you can imagine in this time of need.
These will be a challenging couple months for our girl & family but when we look back and have this girl for many more years it will all just be a part of her journey. I’m blessed to have her in my life & all the joy she has brought to the lives of many others❤️
