Layla’s Cancer Journey

Hi, Candie from Corgi Town USA here. In my quest for serving the pet community, I became great friends with the Beckmanns, founders of the non profit Shade Out DM.

As you know, this couple does amazing things for the community through Shade Out DM: repairing, packing, storing and shipping out loaner carts to keep handicapped dogs moving, providing emotional and informational support for families affected by degenerative myelopathy. They’ve touched so many lives and enriched so many and they need our help!!

Layla the corgi, one third of the spokesPups for the foundation (Angel KC and Spenser being the others) has been diagnosed with hermangiosarcoma. Being rather young still and a rescue, this is not the news the Beckmann family hoped for.

Running a nonprofit is, well, not profitable, and there is a major shortfall in funds. Working with the oncologist team, a pet nutritionist, and combining Chinese herbs with western medicine, the family is throwing everything at the interloping cells and fighting for Ms. Layla. The “wellness team,” as we should refer to them, is giving glimmers of hope that with the right treatment plan, Layla has the potential for a good amount of happy healthy time ahead!
