**UPDATE**
Firstly, on behalf of Lauren and family we are absolutely overwhelmed with the amount of support we have received from family to friends to neighbors and strangers. Thank you for your donations through cash app, GoFundMe, food donations & gifts. Lauren still has no diagnosis. Doctors have not figured out what caused Lauren's brain injury. She is diagnosed with an unexplained brain injury. Lauren does have future appointments with a neurologist and we are praying someone can figure this all out. Lauren is progressing physically. Thank God. She is able to walk, climb stairs and starting to run! Cognitively she has many deficits. She still has zero past memory, she is relearning everything! How to read, vocabulary, relearning family members and friends, experiencing new foods/smells etc.. She needs a lot of help with logic and reasoning concepts. She attends many therapies multiple times during the week. Her mom still has not been able to return to work since her initial injury on Jan 23. We are still praying for 100% + healing for Lauren. We know that with God all things are possible and we are patiently and fervently waiting for total healing for Lauren.
January 23, 2021 The day we started this new journey.
Lauren was experiencing abdominal pain so I took her on what I thought would be a quick trip to the ER. Hours later we learned Lauren would need emergency surgery and was bleeding internally. We immediately shifted into prayer mode. Doctors said Lauren's surgery was successful and she could leave the next day. There were no complications. Hours later after surgery, Lauren was rushed to ICU. Then she was transported to the children’s hospital because she suffered an unexplained brain injury to her cerebellum. Lauren was unable to walk, talk, and recall any memories. She has cognitive issues.
Lauren is high school senior set to graduate June 2021. Prior to this incident, our athletic track runner, fun spirited, lively, and independent teen worked at her first job, Burger King. Before this happened, Lauren was in the midst of building her dreams. She planned to attend college to becoming a radiologist technician. She has so many aspirations. We never expected we'd be saying this but she needs everyone's help right now. There are immediate needs and the costs of her recovery will be massive.
Although she’s improving, her medical needs will require extensive medical care, including physical therapy, occupational therapy, speech therapy, and neurological testing.
Her mother has had to take FMLA leave from work and does not know if she will be able to return due to constant 24/7 care for Lauren. This is an extremely difficult time for them, and their only focus is on her recovery. She has a long road ahead, but with your prayers, we know they will get through this.
Now is the time for us to come together as a community to support her in a time of great need. We are aiming to raise enough funds to cover her recovery expenses.
Any contribution would be greatly appreciated and would go towards the following expenses:
-To cover her mother’s and other caretakers’ costs to care for Lauren during recovery ,so they can devote the time and energy needed to care for Lauren without jeopardizing their own stability, as her mother is on leave without pay.
-Any physical changes that need to be made to her parent's house to prepare for post rehab recovery, including specialized furniture.
-Long- term medical needs, including mental health and trauma treatment as well as PT, OT, and speech therapy.
-Tolls and parking fees incurred taking Lauren to her appointments, along with travel fees. ( for second opinion testing and treatments.)
-Alternative therapy not covered by insurance companies.
This tragedy could not have happened to a more beautiful soul.
