On January 26th of this year, Lauren received unexpected news that turned her and her family’s world upside down. After noticing a lump in her neck and increased swelling in the area, Lauren went in to the doctor to get it checked out. A few appointments and tests later, she was diagnosed with Hodgkin’s Lymphoma.
Lauren has now had multiple CT scans, a biopsy of the tissue in her neck, a PET scan, echocardiogram, bone marrow biopsy, pulmonary function test, and many labs to confirm the diagnosis. She will soon be getting a port placed in her chest, which will be used to infuse the chemotherapy she will be starting in March. Her chemotherapy will be every other week for two months, at which point she will repeat her scans and then determine how much longer she needs chemotherapy.
This turn of events in Lauren’s life has also added an unexpected financial burden to her and her family. Lauren is only 21 years old, currently attending the University of Minnesota and plans to stay in school and graduate this spring despite everything she is going through. She lights up the room with her bright and energetic personality and can put a smile on the face of everyone around her.
