Laura & Sahara`s medical bills

My name is Laura.  I, along with 300 other dogs were rescued in May 2016 from a South Korean dog meat farm by Nami Kim (Savekoreandogs.org).  We were doomed for a fate that all meat dogs endure.  We would be beaten, boiled alive or skinned alive just for our meat.  100 of us were considered severly traumatized because the slaughter scene was right by our cage where we watch as the others were murdered.  After I was rescued I was frightened and no one could touch me or go near me.  I was attacked at the rescue shelter by 3 other dogs and my leg was torn so badly I needed over 80 stitches and almost didn`t survive.  I became even more frightened and unsure.

In February 2017 I was flown to a foster home in Maryland where I was well cared for and learned for the first time what it was like to be a normal dog.  I had giardia and hook worms which was treated and I got better.   I was checked for heartworms but the test was negative (I got bit in September or October of 2016 and it takes up to 7 months for it to show up on a test).

In April 2017 I was adopted by a lady in Arizona and on May 1 I was picked up at the air port and drove to my forever home.  I have 3 sisters who love me and play with me.  My new mom takes such great care of me.  She has been working with me to overcome my fears and socializing me.  She took me to the vet to be checked out and had me re tested for heartworm to be on the safe side.  It turned out my test was positive and there were baby heartworms in my blood.  I am lucky it is in the early stages.  I have to be on Doxycycline and steroids for 30 days as well as Heartgard.  I will then have to get a painful injection and then 30 days later two more within 24 hours.  The vet thinks it will run at least $1500.  Heartworm is fatal so I have to go through treatment.  I have been through too much to let this stop me from living.  My mom will do anything to keep me healthy and happy.  This was a large, unexpected bill for her.

My mom is a huge supporter for animal rights and stopping the dog meat trade. I am so lucky that she gave me a second chance to live the life that I deserve. I am happy to share the same name, you see, I was named after her by Nami Kim in appreciation for the help she has done for the dogs.  Any donation to help us is greatly appreciated.  I just want to live the life I always dreamed of.  I will be getting my first shot July 24.  I am being treated at Banfield pet hospital by Dr. Jucan in Phoenix.

My sister, Sahara became suddenly ill June 12 and was rushed to Vetmed animal hospital.  An ultrasound revealed fluid in her abdomen which turned out to blood.  They did emergency surgery where they found a bleeding tumor on her liver and tumors on her spleen.  Her spleen and a lobe of her liver were removed.  She spent 3 days in ICU.  The pathology report came back as visceral hemangiosarcoma cancer.  We were told it is not treatable.  Our mom is doing everything she can to save Sahara.  We are doing naturopath and traditional treatments.  So far she is doing really well.  Her mediacl expenses to date have exceeded $6,500. No amount is too small to help out!

Thank you so much,
