Laura Sanchez & Erik Calles House Fire Fund

On Sunday 12/13/20, Laura and Erik suffered a tremendous loss when their apartment caught on fire through the night and burned due to an electrical shortage in their building. Not only did they have to evacuate and leave everything behind them, but their landlord does not have the insurance necessary to help them pay for a place to stay until they find a new home.

Their only family is across the country, and with the pandemic they can't easily stay with friends since they are both high risk essential workers who don't want to risk anyone else's health.

This year has been full of incredible hardship and loss for all, but it broke my heart to hear this news when Laura and Erik called. They are two of the most welcoming, warm, kind-hearted people I've had the pleasure of calling my friends. They will truly do anything for their loved ones. It's our turn to help them back. They don't need much, just a little support from our community so they can pay for immediate needs such as food and shelter and so they can afford the first month's rent and a security deposit on a new apartment during a time when Covid has hit their (and everyone's) savings especially hard.

They did not want me to make this fundraiser since they are both humble, hardworking people, but it was the only way I could provide them with some form of help from across the country. It doesn't matter if it's the $5 you'd typically spend on coffee or if you're able to give more - anything helps, even just sharing this post. If this year has brought nothing but heartbreak, please help things be a little better for two people who undoubtedly make the world a brighter, more loving place.
